when i finish a journal I label it with a fat tip metallic gold sharpie with the date of the journalās first and last entry. Then i put it with my other similarly-labeled finished journals on my bookshelf and never read at them again Unless absolutely necessary. Ideally nobody will ever lay eyes on it until my kids/grandkids do after iām dead and going through my stuff and they read it and think wow grandpa was really fucked up for a long time
this is only a habit i have picked up in the last year, but it has made a world of difference. i will write about things that i am thinking about or stuff i need to do or just chronicle my day. i just find it very grounding or like a reset to my thought processes.
I keep all my journals in a big plastic box under my bed. The Artistās Way instructs you to read your journals at the end of the course, and it was the first time Iād really done that and now I love occasionally going back a few months or so! You can see patterns, find old ideas or good bits of writing to use somewhere else. At the end of 2023 I read through my entire years worth of journals and did āA Year in Diary Excerptsā on my substack, it was amazing to see the progression throughout the year, and it may as well be an advert for ADHD medication the way it shows how much better it made me!
truly Americaās pastime. I was reading in the park earlier and overheard a girl dishing about a breakup to her friend who was kinda implying she was in the wrong⦠and she was like āso did I lie? Yes. But I meant it at the timeā and then explained to her friend how the NYT connections puzzles work. I only hope people are as thrilled when they listen in on my crazy ass. I love being nosy
really just stretching your whole body so intensely youāre using muscles you didnāt even know you had and squeaking like a little mouse. wiggling like a worm on the sidewalk after it rains when you poke it with your shoe, but a little slower. maybe more snake than worm. but to each their own
