The movie but also the food. It makes me feel. Plus there’s something so comforting and serene about whatever was going on with the camera quality that gives early 90s movies that washed out look. Oh also! Kathy Bates.

could any one stop her? misery, fried green tomatoes, dolores claiborne, titanic, the water boy, and even primary colors. i feel like the latter two have not aged well and feel like they’re stuck in time, but overall she had a really great mix of lead and supporting roles in (for lack of a better word) iconic films. she can be so funny and over the top in a way that doesn’t derail a movie. even when she’s chewing it up, it never feels wrong. she had a way of elevating sort of schlocky material.

Gorgeous technicolor epic and Scarlett O’Hara is the greatest female character of all time… Honorable mentions: * Imitation of Life (1959) * The Shop Around the Corner * Bringing Up Baby * The Apartment * Valley of the Dolls — I want a remake with Lindsay Lohan as Neely and I don’t care who else is cast * Grease — why is John Travolta so sexy… * Beaches (1988), Steel Magnolias, and Fried Green Tomatoes (I’m listing these all together because they all make me sob inconsolably) * Anne of Green Gables (1985) — not a movie it’s a miniseries but I always would watch it all in one go like a long movie on VHS 🤓

I'd been hearing about THE RED SHOES for years and never got round to watching it - the picture of Moira Shearer staring, wild-eyed, and so intense, at the camera was captivating and it was always on my radar for that reason. Finally, towards the end of last year, I watched it, and JESUS. It is without doubt one of the best films I have ever seen. Despite being shot in the 40s, it feels so contemporary - the colour, the camera movement - and you can feel its DNA all over so many of the films that came after it. It's also the reason Martin Scorsese wanted to be a filmmaker - he was obsessed by it as a nine year old; it's why he uses red so much. It is, unquestionably, required viewing. It also really disturbs the idea that British cinema is all kitchen sink realism. I love the vision, the ambition. As a British filmmaker myself, I love that this makes me feel seen in our cinematic history.

I don't know where you live, but in Ohio it's 9º my young man is a 7yo pug named Bruce and he gets very few pleasures in life beyond his association with me. I plugged in an old heating pad (i've personally upgraded to heated blanket) and put it on his bed-- he's in a state of euphoria. (fyi: goes without saying, don't make it too hot and don't burn your house down. cheers!)

"Important" is subjective. I just got a planner that only gives me 3 (three!!!!) lines of to-do list- it's actually changed my life. A slow burn of getting things done instead of the 36 line-item list that only makes me feel depresso at the end of the day it over. Three things only.
