25 OR 6 TO 4 by Chicago Track of my week! Gets you going! Big credit to my binge watch of Freaks & Geeks last weekend for bringing this track back to the front of my mind from wherever it had been hiding in my body.
This cover was so funky, my brain vibrated into heaven. According to the Youtube description "This is a cover of ‘Raga Bhairav’ by Charanjit Singh, taken from the 1982 Album ‘Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat’.
Created in Mumbai in 1982, the original song is one of the earliest records to use the Roland TB 303 bass line synthesizer – the sound of acid house. Futuristic without intention, the album pre-dates the first acid house records of Chicago." Will follow up with the original later!
Listened to this song the second it dropped and haven't stopped listening to it. There's a line so sacrilegious I laughed out loud the first time I heard it. Impassioned and fierce and fearless on a level few bands can manage.
Easily my most anticipated album of the year.
I don't know what's in the water over there that makes Australians so good at rock n roll but we should all be very grateful that they share their gift with us.
A fantastic book on prison abolition. So many parts of this book are shocking and difficult to grapple with but it still manages to be hopeful and encouraging.
