First-Ballot Hall of Fame podcast. Stories about the indie music scene of the early 2000s, the tech-blog glory days, and walking across Europe. My favorite “genre” of podcasts is whatever you call long form conversations between people with great chemistry and good understanding of the medium. Merlin and John, to my brain, are the best at that. From episode 01 ("Keep Moving and Get Out of the Way") they were already making what would be gems of P.I. Recs. At the same time, I struggle to recommend it. John and Merlin have been recording their weekly conversations since September 2011, 12.5 years ago. 1/8 of a century ago. Is this how Star Trek / Doctor Who fans feel when they see the emptiness in my eyes as they begin explaining how the show peaked on its 17th season but the ride is worth it? Still, one of my absolute favorite things in life. #supertrain

I’m working on a podcast about the 1990s for work and went full method so been listening to a lot of ‘90s music which led me to this podcast. The host Rob Harvilla goes on a seemingly unrelated tangent for the first like 15-20 minutes of the episode but always connects it back to the main song/artist in a fun and interesting way. So far I’ve listened to the eps about Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Hole (on an early 90s alt rock kick lol) and they've all been excellent! Planning to listen to many more.

how are we doing out there today? have you checked in on your people? did you make that doctor's appointment? did you forget to floss? today, i'm speaking with this up-and-coming young comic ahead of their his first US tour. i remember that. God, i remember that. they don't tell you time goes fast, kids. chase it while you can. i wouldn't fucking do it again, that's for sure. I like my peace. I prefer peace. i mean, i'm still doing it. yes, but it's a different game now. anyway, maybe you've heard of him. i don't know his stuff too well. i've just seen him around, as you do. in the COMEDY WORLD... same circuits and clubs, different eras. this new generation of comics is a mixed-bag. but i'm hopeful. anyway, interesting guy...quite the character. here we go.

Yes he's my friend and yes I've guested three times but I have discovered so many terrific LPs via this podcast and I'm particularly happy with the Elliott Smith "Either/Or" edition: https://www.thatrecordgotmehigh.com/s6e309-elliott-smith-eitheror-with-corey-dubrowa/

Sven had it on his list of post-retirement goals. We spent a weekend driving forklifts and got an appropriately ugly-but-official-looking license. I keep it in my wallet. Nothing ever taught me more about mindfulness than Frank the Instructor, with zero preparation, giving me the keys to the forklift and telling me to move some concrete blocks from some shaky shelves full of heavy items, with my fellow forklift-drivers-to-be a couple meters behind with no protection. It's been 1.5 years and I still receive random forklift toys from friends as gifts.

It's Saturday morning. You've been awake for 35 minutes, and after a bowl of müsli and a cup of coffee, you're falling asleep on the second page of your book? It's never too early for a siesta.
