There’s just simply something about the noise mucking about your chair, noticing the details in costumes, not looking at your phone, having a cheeky snack, and lacking the concept of time while being all immersed in it. I know dune isn’t for everyone, but I might think it is anyway.
I wouldn’t say it’s a particularly good adaptation or movie. But the visuals and set design are an opulent maximalism that should be seen and appreciated. Lynch made some baffling additions to the story and world that undermine the central themes in the books. On plus side, the practical effects are astonishing, Alia is the unsettling little creep she’s supposed to be, generous amount of worms, the Atreides royal pug, and Sting in a winged codpiece.
