if youre in your early-mid 20s just do this. dont pretend to yourself you will stay forever just look for a job in your field or transfer offices or whatever and find 1 year accomodation. different city different country (easier visa short term) you will build some kind of character then just come back its no big deal everyone will be happy for you

she was starting grad school, I said can I come with? still here 6+1/2 years later. doing a big move with someone I trust made the process less daunting, and we knew there was no commitment to live together for forever When I'm done with my stint in grad school, I'll probably do something similar: find someone moving to join in with, or wait till a friend in a city is looking for a new lease/roommate and suggest I move in with them Wishing you safe transit to a happier place <3

- don't expect to live in Manhattan - try to have work lined up ahead of time (harder for intl, ik) - move here with less stuff so you can be more flexible with your living situation (it was easier for me at least)

It's so crazy of me to even consider this as I haven't worked a single paying job in a year. I had a breakdown of sorts which led to me quitting school and stopping work. My parents were super supportive but perhaps not anymore. I want to move out now and have my own space. I don't want to wait for my life to "get in line" for me to try stuff and do things. Like moving out! But everything is so expensive in Addis and I would need at least about 5 months worth of monthly salaries to even consider moving out.
