using an iphone 5s in 2025

At the start of the new year i vegan using an iPhone 5s as a ‘dumbphone‘ in place of my normal iPhone 15. dumb phone life is so much more worth living to me. no doomscrolling to be don. i was sleeping better and more present in daily life. unfortunately the service on the 5s was not reliable enough (boooo american companies 4 shutting down 3g towers) phone for me to drive across the country with but i will be switching my sim card back to it ASAP. (it’s just an annoying process as my 15 has an esim and I gotta go to the store and all that.) attaching a mirror selfie w my benjamin franklin case in all its glory:

Get a separate phone for work

If you’re using a phone for work that much, maybe a separate work phone is for you. I realize phones aren’t free, but I argue that your employer should pay for it! If not, you or someone you know probably has a 2 or 3 year old iPhone that would work.

using a ps1 as a cd player

I wanted to add a CD player to my home music setup, but couldn't find anything that both looked cool and was in my budget. after some research (reddit.com "cool cd players"), I found out that audiophiles LOVE the CD player that is built into the PS1. I plugged it into the receiver I have my turntable hooked up to, and it works! I don't really know if it sounds high quality or anything but it sounds good to me. It's a bit tricky to navigate the menu without a screen, but I think with a little more practice, I should be able to enjoy my CDs without too much fidgeting.
