Find ways to independently make money (selling art, learning to fix things, growing food, etc.) so you don't get stuck working for a corporation that will take all your time and energy, leaving you less able to care for yourself and your friends and family, and do other things.
This is not so easy for me in the Monasterie. I have taken a vow... Josef did not agree with the vow. That disagreement is why he keeps his pied a terre. I have visited him on more than one occasion to say, "Josef, we have made a promise." "Este es mi vida," he said to me, on the last occasion. We were sitting on his balcony overlooking the Salumeria. "My life is my own." "You made a vow," I repeated. He refilled my water glass and called down to a woman on the street. Her name was Carolina, he told me. "Carolina will have my child soon. And what will my vow do for him?" "We have ways of handling this," I said. "Please, come back with me to France." I write now from the local convent. The brothers have treated me well here. There are six cows and the milk is fresh. I have just paused to take a drink and wipe my lip. The showers, I am told, are new. Soon I'll be ready to take one. We will see what Josef says tomorrow.
This sounds simple but you gotta stay busy in some way. Have a project, a bucket list, a goal. Learn to play music, write poetry, travel to cool places you’d never have gone if you didn’t take the time off. Learn to draw weird little guys. Create! also highly recommend a daily exercise routine (even just walking), getting out of the house/apartment, getting a silly part time job (cafe, doggy daycare, something fun and low stakes). Stay busy!!
Eat Cara Cara oranges often, write down your worries, phone a friend, try new things. Swim in uncertainty with open arms like a whale, be really messy and undone and appreciate those who WANT to stick around for that, dress up when you can, take adaptogens to support long-term stress/mood stability, eat turmeric rice instead of regular, listen to perfume Genius's new album, do your taxes (unfortunately, it's proven to reduce stress) Take milk thistle to support liver detoxification, call upon God for your troubles, find your favorite hummus or garlic dip, cry as much as you need to, burn that cape around your body, self preservation doesn't always constitute liberation. Listen to your favorite tunes and anytime you stumble across an unknown word in a book, article, song etc... look it up.
