๐ i've been working so hard this summer to rip these wires out of my brain,
meaning i'm trying to detach myself from the internet as a replacement for community
๐๏ธ i think back to how often, as a child being raised in poverty,
i relied on the library for community, entertainment, friends, a space for learning,
a space to feel safe, a space to be free to dive into my interests without class shame
now, finding myself, as an adult still living in poverty,
returning to libraries searching for those same things. it feels restorative in nature
๐ i love going to libraries to meet with people, to borrow media & tools for creation
๐ also, with the realization there is no technical limit on how many library cards one can acquire has stoked this desire to become a member of libraries in different regions
its free, its without shame, its with love, for love

I always find myself back here when I'm at home. There's just something re-orienting about the way it's a lil slice of your town that has its own self-contained vibe where all these different types of people come and do their thing quietly. Awesome

besides free books (physical, digital, audio) the amount of stuff u have access to is wild.
iโm talking board games, sewing machines, language classes, coding lessons, cds and dvds (that you can rip and copy and kEEP - none of the librarians are gonna tell you shit for that), maker spaces, 3D printers, community events, ballet classes, movie nights, car repair lessons, resume help, free national park tickets, bat tours during october! Itโs great!
And for free?!?? in thIS economy? Literally why pay for a coworking space when the library is Right there, with free wifi and quiet rooms all to yourself.
And if there are things you donโt see offered but want to? Ask! Or even better, offer!! Start your own thing, get to know your community members.
Utilize your third spaces, theyโre great!!

THIS SHIT IS INSANE!!!! I miss the 90s n McQueen n Tom Ford n shit and I was not alive in the 90s. I wasnโt even alive on 9/11. Connor Roy would avoid me, because heโd ask โwhere were you on 9/11?โ And I would say โI was in the water, Connor. I was trapped between the atoms of the air you breathe,โ and then because of his omnipresent daddy issues heโd tell me he was interested in politics from a very age. Oh well.
