When we were consistently wearing masks I used the freedom of having my lips hidden to mime along to whatever I was listening to with joy. And also to rehearse imaginary conversations. And also to learn my lines. Now I wear masks much less frequently (altho I try to mask up where I can!) I just still do all those things because who cares. What are people gonna do. They might look at you weird but I literally don’t know them and the next minute they’ll be gone. Tired of repressing my natural instincts for strangers temporary perception of me.

you don't need to do this amymore... live life as authentically as possible and as nonsensical as possible... stop contorting and adhering to the generalised other and other lingering external influences that form the invisible barriers in your mind....

Just because you don’t wear a mask all the time doesn’t mean you can’t wear a mask sometimes! I try to wear a kn95 or better at the grocery store…on public transit…in a cab…on a plane…at a museum… at a concert. it is NOT actually a contradiction to do that even if later you’ll be maskless at the club. risk reduction is good! making public places safer for other people, also good!

We tend to mask ourselves in order to make others comfortable and fit in. Just be weird and shit, who cares…

I saw this yesterday at Prince Charles Cinema and the final shot kinda made me wanna pump my fist in the air at this triumph of cinema but someone else had already been told off for being rowdy so I resisted

It is soooooooo hard to believe in these days when everyone is set on villainising one another because that’s just easier than empathising or understanding, and then also to not use this to slip into an “I can fix him” mindset. But I am a bell hooks babe and I believe that the true power of love is to transform us. To be loved is to be CHANGED!!!!

Support our independent cinema screens!! I am a Londoner so I have memberships with BFI, Prince Charles and Picturehouse and it is totally worth it, especially as watching movies takes up a good chunk of my personality and I dislike watching things at home. Advanced screenings, access to smaller films, discounted tickets are all great but it’s also just nice to support these places who do so much in preserving the British independent film scene which is currently in an abysmal state. Curzon, Everyman, The Garden, Genesis, ICA and many more are also all great and I would be members of them all if I could. Big up BFI especially because I probably wouldn’t have got as far in both my career and love of film without them, and the Northampton Filmhouse in my hometown which was my first independent cinema. These are of course London based examples but I encourage everyone to support their local independents 🫶🏻
