young people (people of my generation) are AWFUL at picking up the phone when you call. even when they're your best friends, they'd rather text and not have to actually generate and communicate their thoughts in real time except when they're forced to irl. it really irritates me, especially when i know they're not actually doing anything significant when i try to call. cmon guys, a good phone call goes a long way!!!

It’s so clear which if my friends have and don’t have Adderall scripts based on who calls you out of the blue. Someone calling you randomly at 3:30pm on a Wednesday? Keep that friend. They might come in handy one day.

yeah. I do have some friends who are chill and will chat on the phone, but it's not about important shit anymore, it's more just "hey, haven't seen you in a while, how ya been, yeah," and then 30 minutes later "love ya buddy."

danhakimi maybe i'm just spiritually old compared to my peers but i usually call when people aren't responding to my texts about something important... and they're still never motivated enough by a ringing phone

back in my day, when you needed somebody some time in the next ~24 hours, you sent a text or an email, and when you needed them now, you called them, and their phone would ring, and they would probably answer—or, if they couldn't, they'd call or text back as soon as they saw it. Because you know a phone call *means* something. but now, a phone call is more like a long letter, hand written, on parchment, with a quill. you only do it to feel special. I still appreciate it, but it's lost its practicality.

the only time i dont answer the phone is if i cant. idc if i dont know the number, idc if it's someone i haven't spoken to in ages, it doesn't even matter if i like the person or not. texting is horrible and i think people's call aversion is un peu absurd. there's nothing like hearing another person's voice

Stop texting so much. Call your friend, or anyone. A phone call can be so much faster and efficient. Especially when you’re trying to make plans. There’s so much communication that’s lost when you don’t hear someone’s tone. Listen, I was a salesman before I worked in the entertainment biz and I spent eight hours a day on the phone. Cold calling. It was disgusting. But if there’s anything I learned, it’s that if you want to close a deal it starts with picking up the phone.

sometimes i kinda forget sometimes that phone calls aren't just for family, call your friends! text catch ups suck and it’s so nice to hear the voice of your buddies

i know that most people cool enough to post here probably know this by now, but wired headphones are the best. for audio quality, yes, but also cos i’m wearing jeans with rly small front pockets, so my phone is in my back pocket and my wired headphones tell me that my phone hasn’t been stolen again

substacks are the modern blogs now, right?
i've got my own substack linked in my profile under 'website' (i need to post more often, working on that). and of course, rayne-fisher-quann's substack is top tier. i read her stuff and i wish i could write nearly that well.
as far as traditional blogs (ie, dedicated websites), dangerous minds is a cool music blog that posts (or at least used to post) about random things in the world of 70s and 80s art rock and post-punk. again, not sure how active they still are but it's got that loose writing style and primitive design of the late 00s/early 10s blog era that i wasn't really around for but get nostalgic over nonetheles.
