In a perfect discography — yes, even the ABBA cover — ”Third” stands above, dense and darkly packed as DNA of an extinct species, teased apart and studied by future generations, yet never fully revealing the reservoir of secrets contained therein. But keep “Machine Gun” off sexy time playlists now and evermore, plz.

My personal thoughts: this album is damn awesome! Glory Box and Sour Times are my personal favorite Portishead songs, but there really isn’t a skip on the entire album. It’s honestly hard to believe the album was released 30 years ago because the production still sounds fresh and flawless today.

Things You Should Leave Alone is sooo solid and a shining example of what a trip hop album should be— moody, sexy, sometimes desperate, but also sometimes insouciant. Sick beats. Trip Hop is one of the things I hold in the highest regard, take deathly seriously, I “do not play” about it. I discovered Puracane semi recently (small discography, toured with Depeche Mode once) and was just enchanted by this album. My favorite track is 14 Nights. There’s also a cover of Summertime Rolls by Jane’s Addiction which is fun and makes sense kinda

I absolutely adore the whole album and think it’s a masteripiece, it’s just sosmething about these 3 songs in a row specifically i can’t stooop. Don’t know if it’s about the flawless transitions or the way the panned the synths here or the cohesive theme, but just aaaa :,)

I’m a week behind in my reading, but I’ll gladly lag a bit more to re-read this (and throw some Cronenberg on the big little screen)
