📴i have a rule that as soon as i see an ad on socials that isn’t for something i’m following i get off. keeps me on the favorites/following tabs on insta which doesn't have constant new content so i’m inclined to check it less. also keeps me off story scrolling and reels because they automatically lace ads in there. all these ad-based platforms are now is algorithms designed to keep you on the platform as long as possible so you can see more ads so the site generates more revenue and shareholders get a bigger return. see right though this, get what you care about (updates from friends, bands, local spots, etc.) and dip. you won’t be missing much trust me.

📱i'm sick of all other social medias and have come full circle. i haven't sent a friend request in years, but this means the people showing up on my feed are so random and so funny. i see a ton of content from elderly relatives, estranged acquaintances, old elementary school classmates' parents, etc. it's great for getting out of your little curated internet bubble.
also the algorithm for feeding suggested content to you sucks in the best, most bonkers way. my FB feed is like 1/3 posts from friends and pages i follow, and 2/3 suggested content. scrolling rn i see an AI-generated photoset of 1994 Jennifer Aniston in a bikini with her arms around 2018 Ariana Grande and 2010 Selena Gomez (both also in bikinis), a diet guide marketed specifically to grandmothers, a mysterious advertisement for a "miracle plant" that features a video of someone rubbing aloe vera onto the crotch of a pair of panties, a post from the page "Exploring Utah" that's just pictures of Utah's landscape, and a scathing tabloid article about Nicole Kidman coming from a page called "I Love Denzel Washington."

🧨Last year my new year's resolution was to get hotter. To this day it is the best resolution I've ever made, because feeling hot forces you to be embodied.
In 2023 I genuinely put time and energy into considering my corporeal form. What cuts of clothing make me feel powerful? What colors? What fabrics do I like to feel on my skin? What hairstyles accentuate my bone structure? What physical activity could I actually sustain and enjoy? How does my body feel energetically when I eat certain foods?
It brought me out of a haze of digital overwhelm; I was no longer an avatar but a living, breathing, sweating, dancing, fucking human. Consider getting hotter today!
