not really a recommendation, but my friend who was in culinary class in all 4 years of high school recommends that for cake mix you:
- use milk instead of water
- use melted butter instead of oil and double the amount that would’ve been oil*
- add an extra egg * don’t mix hot melted butter with the eggs or it will cook them lolz
Named bc it is made without any dairy and was a common fixture during the great depression, but works the other way as it’s literally the easiest cake to make and can all be mixed up in one pan then baked. Love this recipe bc if you have a food or coffee scale you really don’t need to dirty more than a couple measurement tools. -1 ½ cups (187 g) all-purpose flour
-1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
- ¼ cup (29.5 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- ⅓ cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup (237 g) water Grease or line an 8x8 baking pan with parchment paper Whisk together dry ingredients. Add wet ingredients. Bake at 350 for about 30-35 minutes
