Get back in touch with that one teach who made you read Dubliners or A Fan's Notes or whatever. They love spilling tea about the other teachers you hated who made you read Beowulf.
It's usually awful information, but nonetheless scintillating information

my freshman year of high school i went to a new school and i didnt know how to do school well bc i have learning disabilities. it was an academically rigorous traditional school and i forgot to do my homework bc i was bad at planning ahead and like generally keeping track of things. anyway like the first week of this new school i get to class and got called on about the homework and i had to say in front of the class that i forgot. this teacher was known to be an odd ball/old school and he yelled at me and sent me out of class and asked me and told me only to return when i was prepared and ready to learn. needless to say i was stunned and packed up my stuff and ran out crying. i mean i was literally like 14.
this then became the folklore everyone told new students about this teacher and it got passed down but no one realized it was me and when i became like a senior i would tell freshman and they were like that was you?!?!
anyway this teacher years later got clocked for sexual misconduct and buying kids alcohol lol

it was about my high school’s magnet drama program. I was writing it to blow off steam and because I was holding too much, and I really didn’t expect for it to be read. someone must’ve been googling their name (first name! I only used first names) and the name of our program because it got out … to the whole school. they were talking about it in my English class and debating who wrote it in AP psych. nowhere was safe but math.

his name was mr. o’hagan and he was undoubtedly the single coolest person ive ever met. he would play his favourite albums in class and make the person at the door watch just in case our principal came in. never raised his voice and would wait a few seconds between his sentences to find the right words, so the classroom would hang in silence. on the final day of my time in high school, he wore a short sleeve shirt for the first time and I found out he had these twisting vine tattoos along both of his arms and he gave me a copy of never let me go

There's a real death rattle going on for indie rock or whatever we're calling the kids who play guitars. So self-serious, so self-respecting, so self-important. Dour and dreary. Image conscious and with so much inhibition.
Where is our Tom Waits or Lucinda Williams or Silver Jews or Smog or...? I mean, fuck. Even the National would kill a bottle or two of sauvignon blanc on stage.
We deserve a better class of bands. We deserve the Replacements getting shitfaced and lamenting (stammering?) mid-song about losing a girl's number again or trashing David Bowie's dressing room. Or, y'know...Being blackout on SNL

I love walking around the city and seeing like a full blown rockabilly kid or a Robert-Smith-eyeliner-goth (the clown-core thing is EXEMPT from this I hate seeing you clown makeup mf'ers)
