The "love song" from the Cactus Album. The groove is sexy and the rhymes have a cockstrong attitude that convinced even 18yo me that I was gonna pull that night. I'm more partial to Pete Nice than Serch, but they both deserve to be remembered for their skills.

3 Feet High and Rising is such an incredible record. The sampling, the humor, the blending of different styles of music. Their music always lifts me up. Also, I may have a small crush on Kelvin Mercer in those wireframe glasses. 🫠

i’ve revisited this album since my middle/ highschool days and with the recent appreciation for mid 2000s music/ culture (indie sleaze whatever), tick, clap + boom beats in underground rap of the time seemed pretty permeating … we should bring it back. it was hot

Really works for me still, great ordering of tracks, more grooves than corduroy pants.

Just overpowering soulfulness. An amazing musician and singer, such an incredible loss when his demons got the best of him. The sound he makes coming out of the conga break (around 9:10) gives me goosebumps.

Powerful stuff, big horn sounds, passionate singing, and sweet-stinging guitar

Sounds to me like Al Green and the Stones had a baby. My favorite song off their Half the City album. Don't care much for their subsequent work (aside from Apollo, which I could listen to on endless repeat), but this album kicks ass from start to finish.
