As a person who leans toward hoarding (I dj and have like 3k records and it’s taking over my apartment but I can’t stop bc I view myself as a “collector”) this video essay super thought provoking. I’ve brought it up in every small talk convo I’ve had in the last week

is it okay that I’ve surrounded myself with so much STUFF? is accumulation always greed? where is the line between excess and simply nesting/ living in a home? is it just a luxury to have the space to store things for repurposing and reusing (ie jars, scraps for art, hobbies of the past — and hopefully the future— once adulthood/capitalism settles down)? or is this actually good for something?

I took this at the Chelsea flea when I visited New york, and when I look back to how much I just spent today on thrifting alone, I wonder how the appeal of low cost one of a kind—kinda causes people to overconsume. “Trinkets” are becoming a trend now and it befuzzles me as someone who has been collecting little nothings since I was a lamb, and I wonder how it can turn into hoarding fast.

So I am quite happy with most things I own, you never know when they can come in handy. The few things I would like to get rid of, though, are things like clothes (which I need to donate) or gifts that I never really figured out what to do with but feel like I like them enough to keep around (and bc they r gifts I feel obligated to try my hardest to make it work).

Making non-commercial as cheap as possible things for your friends to come to!!!! I️ throw these silly little indie dance parties in dc, and it’s so fun to slowly develop a little community in such a transient city. Next one is in April!
