Lately I’ve been alarmed when talking to others that they think they’re experts on things they don’t really know much about. And also think they’re experts on things they know a lot about! I think it’s important to know that we don’t know everything and our convictions, whilst important to have them, can be proven wrong at any time. This breeds innovation and keeps you in a state of always learning. Stay humble in the face of all that is unknowable. Remember Plato said “I know that I know nothing.”

I’ve met so many people that cannot accept that they aren’t experts at things. I call myself dumb all the time and people tell me don’t say that. I take pride in not knowing though. I don’t have this advanced vocabulary everyone claims to have, I’m just a stupid guy that’s always curious and I’m so happy that most people I talk to don’t feel the need to compete with me. I see that as a gift, just be a person man. We all just trying to figure it out.

When it comes to the sentence "i don't know" it still amazes me the fact that some people don't have the "balls" to say when it comes to really not knowing something.
I quite don't understand the deal of being afraid to say this specific sentence because of the fear of being "judged" or to be seen as "uneducated".
In my life, i have encountered many people who i either chocked or "impressed" them with how confident i am with saying the " i don't know ".
And let me tell you that those who judged me badly or mocked me for saying were never the kind of people i aspire to be or let's just say i wouldn't trade my life to have theirs, while those who instead of mocking me they educated me and were more than happy to help me to understand what i don't know and even guide me to have a better perspective about the subject are the people who i aspire to be and they are quite successful in their lives.
So if you are looked down by people around you for not knowing something maybe you are not in the right environment to seek improvement and it would be better to change it and be around those who are more than willing to see you thrive.

It is soooooooo hard to believe in these days when everyone is set on villainising one another because that’s just easier than empathising or understanding, and then also to not use this to slip into an “I can fix him” mindset. But I am a bell hooks babe and I believe that the true power of love is to transform us. To be loved is to be CHANGED!!!!

Support our independent cinema screens!! I am a Londoner so I have memberships with BFI, Prince Charles and Picturehouse and it is totally worth it, especially as watching movies takes up a good chunk of my personality and I dislike watching things at home. Advanced screenings, access to smaller films, discounted tickets are all great but it’s also just nice to support these places who do so much in preserving the British independent film scene which is currently in an abysmal state. Curzon, Everyman, The Garden, Genesis, ICA and many more are also all great and I would be members of them all if I could. Big up BFI especially because I probably wouldn’t have got as far in both my career and love of film without them, and the Northampton Filmhouse in my hometown which was my first independent cinema.
These are of course London based examples but I encourage everyone to support their local independents 🫶🏻
