I hate to be this person but the only thing that has really helped me in the winter is 1. Getting up early to see some sunlight. don’t sleep until 11 pm 2. Exercising outside, even when it’s cold. I used to be like “why would anyone run in the winter it’s so miserable” and now I understand that if you layer up a ton and dress appropriately it’s honestly not so bad! but u need to understand I was driven to try it out of misery ✌️. ofc this is barring inclement and extreme weather, coming from someone who lives in NJ and lived in Boston for 5 years. still cannot say I enjoy the winter and I have some remaining mood issues but changing my mindset around exercise has helped me.

The feeling of getting cold is one of the most physically engaging sensations. I hate being cold for a long time but initially, it makes me hyperaware and clears my mind Waking up in the winter months and going outside first thing, whether it be to get breakfast or for a walk, benefits my daily routine

it pains me to say it, but a 30 minute cardio thing keeps me warm for maybe 90 minutes after. Also going out for a walkwarms me, and when I get home my place feels a lot warmer compared to outside. I live in southern California so cold is relative! Also wear a warm hat at home!

layering up to trek your neighborhood in negative temps is one of the most invigorating things you can do as a human… it reminds me of being in fourth grade and how playing in your back yard felt like The Hatchet. I suggest taking unexplored paths & before you head home pick up an extra hot toddy.
