Ruminating on the time I sent my crush a video of me singing terribly in hs and started cringing horribly. Then I thought to my 5th grade talent show where my performance brought the house down :-)
felt better. Just actively hide in good memories to evade the cringe-inducing ones. Got me out of a rumination spiral 🌀

Every memory is as crisp and clear as the day it was made. The good ones which I daydream about, and the bad ones which make me nauseous. I don’t like the latter very much but my brain seems to; playing them like film on the back of my eyelids while I try to sleep.
I don’t know if I would recommend this actually…

I’m quite the sentimental kid so I am constantly in my head about time passing. I’ve found though that the practice of looking back (I read my old journals, for instance) and really being in awe sometimes of just how far I’ve come helps. In a similar but opposite vein, looking forward (making set goals and taking the time to imagine the person you’ll become) is great too. If you’ve forgotten memories you once assumed would stay with you forever, consider that the space in your memory/mind had to open up for something even better that’s coming along. Take the time to wonder what those better memories could be. There’s something equally terrifying and incredibly liberating about time. You wanna go back about as bad as you wanna skip ahead, that’s the game.
Coping with it looks different for everyone, though. These are just my two cents and what’s been helping me at this moment in my life.
