I've been really into watching YC videos on how to start and run a successful tech start up after learning more about them during the whole OpenAI debacle. I'm like 60% sure I don't want to start my own company any time soon but it's still really interesting to me to hear about how these people think and a lot of does really apply to any corporate/tech job in general.
(I do feel conflicted though because I'm sure most of these people are cash grab capitalists trying to get rich quick and are insufferable to talk to IRL tho, but sometimes they do say interesting stuff I haven't thought of before and agree with)

like hoooooly shit, the various things people like peter thiel, curtis yarvin, and their circles (including musk) say sound so insane because they are fucking insane people. but I feel like I sound insane when I'm like no like they've publically said they want corporate cities ran by billionaires where we're all their slaves and the people who aren't good enough workers will be turned into bio fuel (and the people behind these ideas are backing/heavily influencing people in office and creating surveillance companies and brain chips and shit but that's a whole other post)

Ok so this isn’t usually up my alley, because I’m your typical banking/finance hater, but I clicked on it and watched the whole episode like a TV show.
SO FASCINATING. I didn’t know derivatives trading actually had to do with…derivatives.
I also LOVE the explanation of why mathematicians and physicists are involved in finance, it makes me feel less cynical towards finance as an industry.
You should watch this if you’re a STEM-y person, or a history person, or just generally if you don’t understand a lot of what’s going on in the nebulous world of finance.

My all time favorite show of the last few years. I’m halfway through a podcast recap series (on Seeking Derangements with Ben Mora & Hesse Deni, the first few episodes are free and the rest are on patreon). Here’s the elevator pitch: Three self-made billionaires are dropped in small American cities with fake identities and none of their possessions or contacts. With only a truck, a smartphone and $100 in their pocket, can they prove the American dream is still alive by starting businesses that reach a 1 Million dollar valuation in just three months??Ever since becoming a business owner I’ve done a deep dive into business media like this because it really gamifies life into a speedrun where now the variables and game elements are people and products and prices and logistics systems. It’s like applying D&D game theory to all of the connected economies in a city, which sounds stupid except they’re kind of right. Real life is just like that!

Bonus points if you do it while listening to really hype music at the same time. Nothing gets you in the mood to code a breadth first search tree like drinking wine straight from the bottle while listening to Ken Carson

Someone with more time on their hands and more well read than me can probably write a whole substack post talking about apps that track your usage of other apps or what media you consume and how they reveal a more authentic version of ourselves except not really cuz we become self aware of our usage of these "meta-apps" to the point where we moderate our usage of the original apps to present a particular version of ourselves that too is inauthentic. I don't have the time nor the background in that field to write about that so all I'll say is stats.fm is fun and I like seeing my monthly recap and checking what my friends are listening to! Everyone should download it!
