as per the prompt, i’ve had MANY songs ruined for me by their ties to former friends, lovers, yada yada. sooooo here’s a rather pertinent excerpt from a creative piece i wrote a while back called “How to Ruin a Song You Once Loved.” this part of the piece is, of course, referencing the iconic, “You‘re Not Good Enough” by Blood Orange <3
Fun to sing, headbang and dance to. Its also reminds me of my favourite scene in the holiday where Cameron Diaz's character who is going through a breakup sings the song semi off key with a glass of red wine in a quaint Surrey cottage that she house swapped on a whim. Truly my idea of dealing with a break up lol. Honestly the entire album, not just that song has great breakup music.
Full disclosure, I live in Aus so cannot *actually* pay for a criterion sub but it would be the first thing I’d do if I lived in the US!!! 🥺 I have accessed one via ~nefarious means but it’s very much worth the $$$
(I am boldly applying this paragraph to the experience of consuming Perfectly Imperfect recs) “One of the characteristics of taste is that it is infectious. The essence of a mesh is that it is a repeating pattern, and although each repeat may depend for its shape on the operation of outside forces — economic, social, religious, political, climactic and so on — yet those forces can only operate on single individuals. And the particularly sensitive individuals who first respond to them become, themselves, forces that affect the whole surrounding area.”
