MAking a mixtape for your loved ones

I just finished assembling the tracklist for a mix cd I plan on gifting to a friend for Christmas- the first one I've committed to making in years. The process of sifting through your library to find a sense of cohesion while also channeling the taste profile of your recipient is hands down my favorite way of exercising my sonic sensibilities. CDs have become such a novelty in this day and age of streaming which makes gifting a personalized one that much more special (: Long Live The Mix!

Making mixtapes/cd mixes for your friends

in a very digital era, it is so special to literally hold a collection of songs that reminds someone of you/reminds you of someone. i’ve started a tradition of making several of my friends mixes around christmas time, and every year they are so so excited and it’s just so sweet. you get to share some songs that they may not know, but you think they’ll like; you get to share some that you associate with a memory with them; you get to put some on there that you are 100% sure they love. playlists are extremely awesome and cool, but so much more thought has to be put into a cd/tape because it takes so much longer to put it all together, has a time limit, etc. bring back the art of mixtapes!!!

A think piece on why we need to stop asking “what do you do for work?”

“self-worth becomes a hostage to professional accolades and achievement” … “Focusing on someone outside their career encourages a culture where people feel valued for who they are, not just what they do” what are your thoughts? i agree to a certain extent. it depends on the delivery of the question as well. most of the time you can tell if someone is genuinely interested in who you are as a person. asking about somebody’s job can provide a lot of insight into a person’s interests and general character - i think it’s fine for your job to be an aspect of your identity. i could also tangent into why capitalism may have an influence on why this question is asked so frequently.. i do find myself struggling with gauging the intentions behind this question sometimes; which often makes me less emotionally open and usually filters a potential friendship into a professional/transactional relationship immediately.

just asking for the shit you want

been doing this more in my everyday life. respectfully ofc. some things i’ve received/am receiving recently from simply asking for it 🤭: - free cocktail! - free ride (i don’t drive) - awesome music reccs - pretty styling pieces for a potential future shoot :) - the beginnings of a fun and crafty project - beautiful bloomers - new friends to hang with grateful for the people who are so giving. makes me want to pay the deed forward. and i do.
