Vintage shop, museums, food

Go down to Brick Lane on Saturday or Sunday for the vintage market, it’s huge! Skip hotel breakfast and get a bagel from Beigel Bake while you’re there Camden Market is where everyone goes. There’s lots of cute stalls and plenty of indie stores between the tourist traps. Try to go during the week because it can get overwhelming with people Take advantage of the free (yes 100% free) museums! V&A is a must, especially the costume wing National Gallery/National Portrait Gallery is also nice Also, cannot emphasize enough to only eat ethnic food while you’re there and eat as much as you can Dishoom (if you can’t get a dinner res just stand in line for lunch) is still a top 3 meal of all time for me Try and get a res at Darjeeling Express! Chef Asma Kahn and her all-women run kitchen were featured on Chefs Table if you want to get to know her and the restaurant better and cry so much Zima is a v cute Russian spot in SoHo with cafe vibes and cool art If you’re a garlic girlie, Garlic and Shots is right around the corner and has, yes, so many different shots you can take and so much good bar food with garlic There’s also a casual Sri Lankan food place called Hoppers on the same block Seriously, forget about going out of your way for British food. You’ll be disappointed every time If you ever want to get out of SoHo, walking is so rewarding and there’s a ton a cute things to see. Also, the train is super easy (you can just use your phone to tap in and out now) if you want to explore other neighborhoods further out

my toronto day off itinerary

morning go to george st diner for breakfast if you’re in the east end , the people are the best there & i’ve never had a bad meal , they also turn tables at a truly impressive rate while never making you feel rushed .. real professionals at work 🫡 [irish breakfast is fantastic in all 3 sizes it’s offered in] -> {afterwards go across the street to window shop at haven if you’re into beautiful but expensive clothing} in the west end go to the federal it’s quick & reliable & cute , small menu but nothings bad [cubano & eggs federal are standouts for me] if you want a coffee i think hamers is the best in the city , they really care about what they’re doing & the prices are surprisingly reasonable in a world where a coffee can easily scrape $10 if you’re not careful ... rooms coffee also has a couple locations across the city & the spaces are thoughtful & beautiful & filled w/ the city's creative directoriest types afternoon ossington is a ridiculous street but there’s a couple great stores there if you like shopping , lost & found is great for high end basics & i miss you is one of the best designer consignment stores in the city . sonic boom probably has the biggest vinyl selection in the city but it’s also home to toronto‘a only genuine film photobooth , it’s so cute & fun to squeeze into the booth & get a little strip of photos to take home while around there you can walk around bellwoods & watch the dogs or get some great fruit & oysters from the farmers market if you’re there on a tuesday & head down the street to get a glass of wine at grape witches gorgeous back patio [they’re open from noon] you could also head west to high park which is huge & a great place for a picnic or a stroll museum wise the textile museum is small but always has something that takes my breath away , truly special exhibitions if you’re into textile arts for a snack stop by le’s sandwich [cash only] for a stunningly cheap & surprisingly good banh mi from the owner’s living room or make the trip up to st clair to go to futura granita + gelato exceptional vibrant flavours & unmatched textures .. best in the city & so worth the trek evening if you’re west you can go roncesvalles & catch a movie at the revue [the citys best theatre] , just go see whatever is playing the editorial team there is fantastic & the crowd is always fun ! pre movie you can browse vinegar syndrome if you’re into under seen/under distributed movies of all varieties , lots of beautiful re editions here by the house label as well as others for a nice dinner go to stop or mhel my two favourite restaurants in the city , seasonal & chef driven , both have small but passionate & kind teams who really care about the food & experience , definitely worth the admittedly high price to portion ratio , beautifully considered dishes & drinks but no fussy pretension behind them . more mid priced options are le swan or bar vendetta [both from jen agg the city’s most publicly opinionated restauranteur who is also one of the best] , dotty’s or cafeteria [one of the new dinner/dance club hybrid spots that are mysteriously becoming a thing here now] cafeteria in particular is headed by eric mcdonald who has been my favourite chef since she blew my mind with what she was doing at sakai bar a few years ago for drinks go to archive or little jerry for beautiful & interesting wine [little jerry in particular has fantastic warm sound & atmosphere & great vinyl dj’s setting the tone] or black dice for a fun japanese rockabilly cash bar this is so long sorry … but i love my city & i especially love the food & drink scene/community here i think it’s really something special 🥲

Boston & Foood!

Depends on where you are in the city ofc! If on/around Newbury Street: (if you're in downtown boston, should be easily accessible by train) - Deluca's sandwiches. It is an expensive artisanal grocery store but if you want back, you can get an amazing amazing sandwich for about $11! A miracle these days tbh - RedWhite Boneless Ramen. Vegan ramen spot! - Krasi. Greek food with speciality in natural wines, if you want to do a nicer dinner - Hokkaido Santouka Ramen. Few chains of these, but great authentic ramen spot. Not my personal fave but Boston is a ramen city, so worth checking out South End area: (one of my favorite places for food. not far from the central part of Boston, but not too much public transportation to these spots, as an FYI) - Mida. Yum, fresh Italian food - Ilona. Greek tapas! - The Elephant Walk. French/Cambodian food, not my favorite ambiance-wise but meal is delicious - Myers+Chang. Def popular but for a reason. Amazing Asian fusion food. - Frenchies and/or Petit Robert, both for French food ofc Cambridge: - not as familiar with the scene but must shout out Lanner Noodles&Bar. soo so good. - Coast Cafe. Soul food. I haven't been but have been dying to go. Their hours are kinda kooky (like Wednesday - Saturday I think), so be aware - Mad Monkfish. Jazz bar & sushi place My favorite cafe in Boston is in Brookline & called Rifrullo Cafe. The food is so so good Famously, the North End in Boston has good food, but it's so touristy lol so I don't really dabble too much. The big spots are bakeries (Modern and Mike's) but honestly .....I think theyre mid af, so wouldn't personally recommend them

First of all welcome!!

- The grocery store franchise closest to you is possibly overcharging, so sometimes groceries become a sort of Halloween style I buy fruit from here, pantry things from here, etc etc - Lots of free things to do with a library card!! so many museums have discounted / free admission, the Met for example allows you to do a suggested donation when showing a library card - Obvious but tap water is 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 no need to buy fancy water when going out to eat (and on this note I always carry around a reusable water bottle and one of those little electric fans bc the temperature outside never matches the subway) - There is no greater joy than getting a blanket and a book and people watching on Sheep Meadow/the Mall/ at any park - Explore the other boroughs!! - It’s so cliche but you can stumble upon so many fun restaurants, events, bars, shops, concerts, museums, etc etc by just strolling around - In tandem with the above I sometimes check the Time Out NY website, the New York Times daily newsletter, New York Magazine. The New Yorker, etc for inspiration and info about things going on - Citymapper is your bff for navigating the subway/bus/transit/walking/etc and is great with keeping you posted on any delays - On this note also always check an MTA app or citymapper etc to see if trains are running, can save you time and sanity - So many free concerts and events at places like the 92nd Street Y, in Bryant Park, SummerStage in Central Park - If you like TV you can go to tapings of shows or get paid to be part of the studio audience on websites like 1iota or Shadow Casting and Productions - Also can get lots of free things from pop ups that different brands host throughout the city, my roommate usually finds them on instagram - Join the free rewards program of your favorite coffee place / grocery store/ etc
