It’s hard but refreshingly powerful to take your eyes off the screen and experience your environment. Sounds, smells, reading facial expressions. Touch surfaces, the table infront of you, maybe the stool you’re sitting on. Try to describe the texture as detailed as possible. We’re often overstimulated visually from all the screen time but there are four more senses (actually seven, counting the perception of temperature, movement as well as your sense of balance) waiting to be fed. Next time you’re early for your lunch date, don’t stare at your phone. Use this precious moment to look around.

Our brains were not meant to computer gaze for this many hours a day. We were never wired to know all of the things happening across the globe. Feeling overwhelmed? Go outside. Touch grass. Water. Concrete. Dirt. Something. Maybe spice it up with a little activity. Take pictures of cool signs you see. Bend down and look at an ant. Find a John Wilson-ass quirk in the dynamic world around you. Your brain and body will like it.
