Nostalgia, perhaps? But I love a good mashup. The more disparate the genres smashed together, the better. Whether it's Iggy Pop and the Stooges meeting Salt n Pepa (2ManyDJs were the masters) Or this one -- Sigur Ros spliced into Mobb Deep (how Portland DJ Emancipator ever thought to do that, I'll never know -- not even the keys are the same, G# and Bflat minor) There's a cleverness and "whiff of the unexpected" that either makes these work or fall flat.

stumbling upon this campaign was the highlight of my day. @GREG had previously shown me the Gorillaz x André 3000 x James Murphy/LCD Soundsystem song “Do Ya Thing” and I was blown away. the “Three Artists, One Song” campaign released songs by unlikely collaborators, and it’s probably the coolest thing converse has ever done. some other collabs include Santigold x Julian Casablancas x N.E.R.D/Pharell Williams and Frank Ocean x some members of The Clash (Mick Jones, Paul Simonon) x Diplo. i linked a youtube playlist compiling these songs but i highly recommend checking out the 13 min version of “Do Ya Thing” !!!!!!!

ie. Childish Gambino/Sleigh Bells, Chiddy Bang/MGMT, etc. My favorite was Azealia Bank's version of Peter Bjorn and John's The Chills aptly updated to "The Chill$"

The man responsible for dozens of Teenage Symphonies to God "Sad songs about happy things" (the first time, as a kid, I can recall the sweet/sour combo of melodies that could make you cry attached to songs about endless, bottomless love) I've long since lost track of how many weddings and funerals I've attended that have featured this song; suffice it to say, "a lot." God only knows what we'd been without him 🙏🏻

Hey tyler hopefully this doesn’t violate some PI.FYI golden rule But after nearly two years of writing, editing and arguing, my book about the EP is coming out in May and can be preordered here: https://hozacrecords.com/product/aifl/ The book is about the origins, history and cultural impact of the EP since these little objects first started coming out in the 50s. Over 50 of my music biz friends then helped me shape the list and review the top 200 ever released, according to us (ha). For those of you who are into this kind of geekery/snobbery, I can’t wait to hear what you think. A labor of love, as all books are! ❤️
