this was partially my first rec. Itās the supplements (and now medication) I take in the morning, and now into the afternoon and evening. itās my elixir that keeps me calm+energized, somehow. Elixir:
Morning: L-theanine first. 5-HTP after breakfast, along with biotin for hair growth and, finally, between days 14-28 of my menstrual cycle: fluoxetine. (For pms if that isnāt clear) Afternoon; magnesium citrate gummy (two) that i got from the grocery store near my house. The only other place I found them was at erewhon?? So obvi had to cop if not just for the reminder of home (lol). Evening: hour before bed I take a magnesium pill. it gets me sooo ready for sleep. Sometimes I just do this but other times Iāll also take two valerian capsules, which help a lot with sleep but it doesnāt have melatonin in it which is ideal. This may seem crazy/a lot but thatās what post grad life is like babe šš , and itās helping w this transition šš
Perks of setting my own work schedule lol⦠I would recommend the shittiest lowest quality magnesium you can buy because the less bioavailable it is the sleepier it will make youātake more than you think you need but be careful because it will likely make you shit yourself but thatās part of its charm. If that sounds too powerful and youāre afraid try magnesium glycinate ;) Try avoiding stimulating things at night and I would say you should probably meditate; there are a lot of guided bedtime meditations on YouTubeāperhaps pair with a legs up the wall pose or you could even do yin yoga which I try to do every night. Maybe take a relaxing bath. Your nervous system is probably going crazy so I would say reducing stressors could also probably help. I take rhodiola rosea, ashwagandha, and phosphatidyl serine for my cortisol levels but check for drug interactions with anything you take. Big fan of L-Theanine tooā¦
When Iām really mentally spiraling Iāll take some magnesium, go to bed, and try to get some vitamin c, sunlight, exercise, and protein in the morning (in that order). 99% of the time it cures me of my ills
Magnesium supplements can be super helpful for meāI take a little bit over the recommended dosage. Magnesium glycinate would probably be best if you want to avoid digestive upset from that and itās the most bioavailable form of magnesium. Yogi tea makes a soothing caramel bedtime tea that used to put me out like a LIGHT. It tastes kind of nasty if you drink it without milk because of the herbs and the stevia but the sleepy effect of hot milk (dairy or otherwise) compounds the effects. Iām sure you exercise but if Iām not exercising regularly enough at the end of the day I have way too much energy that I havenāt expended and my brain spins like a hamster on a wheel. Doing some kind of guided sleep meditation in leg up the wall pose can be really relaxing. Reading something really boring can also help something about the movement of the eyes combined with the dull subject matter does it for me. Iāve also read that if youāre having trouble sleeping itās best to get out of bed because it creates associations of being unable to sleep with being in bed which is like not good. I use a blue light blocker on devices in the evening which is built into iPhones and Mac computers now as the night shift function. ALSO try white or brown noise whenever on YouTube or using a sleep machine and do the typical sleep hygiene stuffātry to avoid screens before bed, make sure your room is dark, etc. hopefully some of this helps š
after having an ovarian cyst for a while and finding out 4 months later that THATS why I was feeling deranged and horrible all the time I canāt get this thought (truth) out of my head ā hormones are kind of everything! period cycles interest me so much now in a way they didnāt before bc I can clearly see the effects of them on our psyches/energy. for example I can always tell when a friend of mine is ovulating or PMSing. now Iām 24/7 yapping about menstruation/womenās health to all my friends.. or anyone who will listen really. mind-body connection fr fr OUT: thinking that asking about periods is rude; men Tiptoeing around the subject of periods; discounting what hormones do to our bodies and minds !!!!
