i got horribly violently ill last night but after a few rounds of throwing up and some hours of suffering i woke up this morning feeling good… and i think i only knocked it out by saying no freaking way! i have to get up and be normal tomorrow! i have no time for this!! because when i get sick usually my entire day will be consumed by a cycle of vomiting and passing out (one always comes with the other). i did not even pass out once last night and that is a huge win for me. highly recommend rejecting illness. not to be like 🙏🧠 the power of the mind 🧠🙏 but sometimes yes… the power of the mind

recently i was suddenly BEDRIDDEN for like a week. and while i thought i would die from fever i: -drained a bottle of robotussin (you can use any cold medicine you like as long as it puts you into a painless haze and gives you strange dreams, this will make the experience a spiritual one) -take this opportunity to binge a show and let beverages and snacks pile up at your bedside. we working adults don’t often have this opportunity. for me it was twin peaks, the fever increased the already hallucinogenic experience of the show. -called friends and family -i really dont know, probably just take advantage of the time to chill and nap because it’s rare. hope you get better soon!

getting sick was something that was inevitable eventually, especially as i havent been sick in two and a half years. i went to sleep last night feeling a bit muddled and woke up with a sore throat and a head cold. i'm grateful that i only have a little sickness and that i have a proper excuse to lounge around (despite my to-do list). im in bed, underneath five blankets, four stuffed animals, three pillows, a scone, a book, my journal, my laptop, and my second medicine ball of the day. being a little sick is very good indeed.

I strongly feel that going up and down two flights of stairs, between two homes fetching the required medication to make a concoction of your strongest potion to make a sick loved one feel better will do the trick.

you probably know them already. i am from the home of Minutemen, beautiful sunny San Pedro, the port of LA and let me tell you... pedro does extreme pride really well and that is especially true when it comes to this band (and in this case the pride is absolutely warranted). george hurley built a fence behind my driveway for us. i played bass in his drum room when i was like 11 lol. yes i am flexing these things because it's awesome and he's an extremely kind man. mike watt is around town sometimes and he comes off as very unapproachable and cranky which is also awesome and funny. ultimately he is also nice though. there are still lots of blue-collar middle-aged (to quite old) people in rock bands in pedro going really hard. one of the biggest blessings of my life is having grown up here (despite the town's issues and generally freakish nature) because of the music scene and support from older musicians. minutemen are our (humble) stars, and i'm grateful for them, and i'm grateful for the many rock/punk/jazz/blues/noise/freaky sound art people in my town. "A Wailing Of A Town: An Oral History of Early San Pedro Punk And More 1977-1985" is a great book, i was super pumped when it came out and everyone who was around at the time had things to say about it/things to expand on. i have love for this place but i still am dying to move away. btw. don't get it twisted... i am getting out of town or i die.
