Rec'd on ⭐ why is it so hard to pick out an outfit to wear
it's okay to repeat outfits
I've been enjoying new clothes, and experimenting them with fun ways, so much lately that I need to keep reminding myself of this. Not every excursion outside needs to be fresh and new and experimental. If I am going out and I need a warm sweater and I need my sneakers and I already have a fit in mind with those pieces, I can just wear it, I don't need to reinvent the wheel every time.

I think this is what I’ve been actively avoiding for some weird reason, I think to myself I constantly need to be innovative with every outfit, when the whole point was just leave the house. I may have an obsession of some sorts.

awb i really relate to this, like i will be late to meet a friend because i am complicating the matter of getting dressed for no reason, all my clothes end up on the floor, it is a whole mess, and nothing will satisfy me, whyyy!! it is so annoying

awb It might have started in the pandemic, for me. I didn't leave the house that often, I didn't have that much clothing I liked, but every time I got out, every occasion, was an *opportunity* to put on a real *fit*, to get my money's worth for the cool new thing I just bought. but it was also good for me to stop worrying about the business casual crap and really start enjoying my wardrobe. I just have to draw the line between fun and addiction, I guess.

sofi UGH, me too. So many times I’ve been almost an hour late!!!just because I can’t decide on what to wear, and then when I get back home my bed and the floor have clothes all over them!!! it’s the worst

danhakimi honestly same, I feel like I have to get my moneys worth out of whatever I bought otherwise I’ll feel like I wasted, I just need like a machine to dress me magically in the best Possible way when I’m running late. It helps to set outfits out for days of the week in advance tho!

OUTFIT REPEATING
the fact that many of us (me included) have closets so expansive that we could avoid repeats for several weeks is actually quite troubling and shows how capitalism habituates us into defining ourselves as consumers. and it’s not just practical and sustainable to repeat your outfits, it’s also how you season the clothes, elevating the outfit’s contents to something more than possessions or garments.

i was never anti outfit repeating necessarily, but i would think about how recently i wore an article/ensemble or where i wore it, who saw it etc. lately i’ve been rewearing outfits that make me look and feel good without thinking too hard about it and like… i look and feel good

I feel like this place isn't about people but about recommendations, right? forget the influencer, forget the individual, just browse and talk about cool shit and whoever says something good, that's good. that's what I liked about reddit, back when I actually liked reddit.

don't settle
for a while, when I wanted something expensive, I would think to myself, "oh, let me just look for a cheaper version of it." I end up settling for something that isn't good in any of the ways that made me want the expensive version.
Throw that out. You can get fantastic pieces for cheap, you can thrift a wardrobe you love, but if you're trying to find a cheap copy of something expensive, it's not going to work.
