ARTHUR WAS RIGHT In addition to physical books, e-books, and audiobooks, you can even borrow movies, seasons of TV shows, music CDs, board games, puzzles, musical instruments, tools, and art supplies at some libraries! My local branch hosts meetings of a ukelele club, a gardening club, and a craft club, and they also teach computer classes for free!

besides free books (physical, digital, audio) the amount of stuff u have access to is wild. i’m talking board games, sewing machines, language classes, coding lessons, cds and dvds (that you can rip and copy and kEEP - none of the librarians are gonna tell you shit for that), maker spaces, 3D printers, community events, ballet classes, movie nights, car repair lessons, resume help, free national park tickets, bat tours during october! It’s great! And for free?!?? in thIS economy? Literally why pay for a coworking space when the library is Right there, with free wifi and quiet rooms all to yourself. And if there are things you don’t see offered but want to? Ask! Or even better, offer!! Start your own thing, get to know your community members. Utilize your third spaces, they’re great!!

although i'm sure it varies from library to library, there are seriously so many resources! not only books at that library but you can request books to be shipped from other public libraries, and movies, games, music, study/meeting rooms, and mine has a whole computer lab in the basement, which is so sick and it's so easy to get a library card, my library has an app and if i wanted to i could go and check out a book and not talk to anyone BUT one of my favorite things is chit-chatting with the librarians and kind of building community ya know? and my library has a micro pantry where you can find non-perishable food items and toiletries. can't believe i haven't mentioned this yet but this is all FREE so yea and i'm located in the suburbs of chicago if youre curious and if for whatever reason something differs from state to state/library to library

It's FREE and depending on your local library system, having a library card also comes with: - Hoopla: Lets you stream movies and check them out FOR FREE - Libby: E-book collections so you can read books/magazines/etc for FREE - Equipment rentals: Some libraries in my hometown have game consoles/musical instruments/etc that patrons can check out And a bunch of cool stuff The more active patrons there are, the more likely they'll keep their funding! Basically, support your local library! Get a card! Use the services!

being sincere is in, thinking you’re always the most interesting person in the room is OUT. take the opportunity to learn from this random human you have crossed paths with at the function. make a big impact with a little, casual convo. what are they into? how did they get into their line of work? what did they eat that day? what is their biggest fear? (lol) small talk is only shallow if you let it be. tell someone working in a super busy place that they’re doing great and you hope they get a breather soon. compliment an outfit you like when you see it. tell someone when you notice their beautiful smile. quick interactions =/= insignificant

very satisfying to prolong the life of things in a world where not very many things are made to last. just applied renovating cream to my blundstones. cleaning my car, sewing up holes or tears in clothing, trimming the wicks of candles, and using slip-on covers for old books fall into this category too
