I come back to this interview pretty often. I always love whenever someone pulls back the curtain on an industry they’re a part of. And I know that art should speak for itself, but I do think I enjoyed Laurel Hell more after reading about the time in her life that inspired making it. “What it came down to was, ‘I have to do this even though it hurts me, because I love it,’ ” Mitski says. “ ‘This is who I am. … I’m going to keep getting hurt, and I’m still going to do it, because this is the only thing I can do.” I also want to turn this into an ask, if anyone has any interviews that they find insightful or interesting that pop into mind every now and again.

I watched this for the first time at the most perfect age to absorb it forever. One of the most formative experiences of my life. There’s no pretense - never is with Mitski - but here her spirit is on full display. The most compelling performance is Class of 2013, wherein she screams into her guitar during the third verse, “Mom will you wash my back this once, and then we can forget.” I’ve replayed that part probably 30 times.

I could go on forever…but there is truly nobody like her!! I’ve been a fan of hers since I discovered Be the Cowboy! She puts so much thought and care into everything, from lyrics to composition to performance. Every album has the ‘Mitski’ vibe, but is also able to encapsulate a whole different atmosphere between each! She’s able to encapsulate the most indescribable feelings in such a poetic way and deserves all the recognition in the world! She’s just so so so talented. Saw her the other night and was just in awe :’) Defo put on some headphones, close your eyes and just listen <3

Remote, cucumber, bag of chips, house keys. Not sure they get anything out of it, but they just seem happy to be kept in the loop.

It bums me out whenever someone's trying to say something but cuts themselves off or says "nevermind" because they assume that they're wasting time. Think it through, or let it come back to you. 3 years ago, I started saying, "Talk through the thought" with my friend, and I think it's made me more patient, and I've ended up hearing/saying some cool shit (or at least some funny shit) that I would've probably missed out on otherwise.
