Amazing diversity of programming
I have discovered SO MUCH new music through these guys
Several friends who DJ or music direct there from my time in Seattle
They are pledge driving now! 🙏🏻
The best radio station! I used to put it on when I worked in an art gallery and email John to say hello and he would always play my requests and give a little shout out and it made my day every time. Made some great discoveries
their new hq outside the climate pledge arena offers a beautiful view into their giant record shelves. if i could stage a heist anywhere…. 🤫 (id never theyre too valuable to all culture)
Same station, same commitment to independence and community, same IDGAF attitude about corporations, same super eclectic approach to music and content and creators 🖤
KEXP.org anywhere in the world 🌎
https://www.kexp.org/podcasts/song-of-the-day/ The best source for new music in my life for almost two decades now. Really just consistently excellent.
It's Friday so I am actively seeking "moving my ass into the weekend" music.
I heard it first on the Seattle station KEXP, 90.3 in the city and KEXP.org worldwide.
KEXP is also a great place for music discovery when you're burnt out or looking for inspiration and connection to community.
Lots of my forever-favorites but also incredible diversity on the playlists and musical programming; the station has an Afropop show, a diaspora of Spanish language and cultures show, multiple hip-hop shows, grassroots/Americana/blues Jamaican sounds, ambient, soul, jazz, in addition to rock of a variety of flavors (except for MOR dumbass rock, none of that). I'm on it all the time and constantly (pleasantly) surprised by what I hear there.
The man responsible for dozens of Teenage Symphonies to God
"Sad songs about happy things" (the first time, as a kid, I can recall the sweet/sour combo of melodies that could make you cry attached to songs about endless, bottomless love)
I've long since lost track of how many weddings and funerals I've attended that have featured this song; suffice it to say, "a lot."
God only knows what we'd been without him 🙏🏻
Hey tyler hopefully this doesn’t violate some PI.FYI golden rule
But after nearly two years of writing, editing and arguing, my book about the EP is coming out in May and can be preordered here: https://hozacrecords.com/product/aifl/ The book is about the origins, history and cultural impact of the EP since these little objects first started coming out in the 50s.
Over 50 of my music biz friends then helped me shape the list and review the top 200 ever released, according to us (ha).
For those of you who are into this kind of geekery/snobbery, I can’t wait to hear what you think. A labor of love, as all books are! ❤️
