Spent an hour racking my brain about what the synth sound at 20 sec of Caroline P‘s new “Spring is Coming…” reminded me of and alas, I’ve got it — “Temporary Secratary” on Mcartney II. Dropping here in case anyone else had the same dilemma ;)

A few years ago I was walking through Golden Gate Park and was thinking again about this voice, this specific particular way someone once said “eleven!?” Months later I wanted some background noise, I movie id seen a bunch in my teens maybe a little nostalgia sound. Put on Almost Famous and there it is. That “eleven!?” That for some reason stuck in my head so many years but I couldn’t recall it. It happened again now, with Mice Parade - Waterslide. I had the twinkling piano and odd time guitar and energetic drums somewhere in the back of my brain, mushed but recognizable you know? And went to listen to some Do Make Say Think and what is recommended next? Waterslide. Anyway, made me happy.

be it a different song reminding you of its melody, something someone says reminding u of its lyrics, or out of the blue being all "wait what was that song i used to love?", the moment of finally recalling the song is an orgasm in miniature. & the longer it takes u to find, the more painful the search feels, but the sweeter the discovery is! i was trying to think of an example just now and again couldn't remember the name of the band that i was searching for for 3 whole months this past year. but now after looking for 20 minutes i'm listening to Breast Stroke by Flaming Tunes and its so much sweeter than it would have been otherwise :)

This song is one that I have played on repeat around this time of year, every year since I was a teenager. I don't know why it becomes something that I obsessively listen to once a year, but I do know that I love it because it is this blend of melody and precision with memorable lyrics (about communications theory no less). There is something so compelling about the synthpop sound and the way that the lyrics feel unfamiliar, almost imperceptible with their layering harmonies at different points in the song.

Best mochi in Los Angeles, no contest. Extremely strong vibes in there, has been family owned and operated since 1903. My favorite is the peanut butter mochi that comes in the unassuming plastic carton (unlike its fancier red bean counterparts that are meticulously decorated and snuggled into ruffled paper cups).
