I saw Adam Green three nights ago, and Jonathan Richman last night. The sheer joy both of these guy had on stage was enchanting and contagious. I’ve never laughed so much at a concert as I did at both of these shows. Never before felt someone keep the whole room smiling uncontrollably all night. They both share a very genuine appreciation for their fans, have very idiosyncratic dance moves, and seemed to be having even more fun than we were, somehow. It was an accidental good-vibes double feature for me.Ā Ā  Also Johanna Sternberg opened for Adam and she was great and also so so sweet. Here’s ā€Friends of Mineā€^

The energy palpably shifted as soon as Hamilton Leithauser started playing ā€œA 1000 Timesā€ last night. And what a thing it is, to share space with a bunch of people you don’t know being moved by the same perfect piece of music. The last time I heard this song live, I went alone to see him play in DC. It was 2017, I was very single, and feeling a bit despondent about the state of the world (living in DC during that period was just hard). What a wild form of time travel it is to see him so many years later in Chicago with my husband sitting next to me! Little lonesome heartbroken Sandy would have loved to know that everything was going to be okay. And that, my friends, is the magic of music. It transports us, unlocks portals, connects us to people we don’t know, moves us, tells stories, and creates a mood. If you’re looking for a good entry to Hamilton Leithauser, I highly recommend his album with Rostam Batmanglij titled ā€œI Had A Dream That You Were Mineā€. Not a single song is worth skipping.

I saw all 3 live for the first time yesterday at The Sultan Room and I think they were all amazing. Their music made me feel like in an early 2000’s NYC movie. I appreciate how impeccable the shows were bc I know how hard it is to create and bring a song to the stage. They are my current favorites <33

janelle monae in 2013(?) and she was electric (pun intended) remi wolf (supported by dora jar) was a great show, very fun, smiled the whole time caroline polachek, was the last gig the day before the first lockdowns in 2020 and then i caught covid (so did caroline so my headcancon was that i caught it from her) and saw Sophie in the flesh in the crowd and the best as of recent was tune-yards, one of the most vibrant, high energy shows with one of the most excited and in-the-moment crowds of any gig i've been too - waited 10 years to see them and they did not disappoint
