When the nail polish is drying and everything you touch is suddenly delicate and fragile. Turning the doorknob more carefully than you ever have before. Pinching the light switch between your thumb and your pointer to turn it on. Typing on your phone with tender precision. Checking on each nail like a newborn, making sure you didn't accidentally hurt one. It makes me kinda anxious but Iโ€™m starting to see it as therapeutic. Like a pausing point.

Itโ€™s a little thing that makes me feel put together and since itโ€™s not something I have to do for hygiene purposes it feels extra special. And having to sit to wait for them to dry really makes me slow down.

I'm bad at keeping track of the cyclical tasks like cutting your nails so I always cut them really short and then let them grow out for weeks until I cut them again. But the transition from long nails to very short is so so satisfying to me. My hands feel so functional and like my own. I like typing without feeling my nails. Being able to do things with my hands without subconsciously worrying / being aware of my nails. It's just a beautiful feeling, childishly joyful in some type of way.

I used to be a compulsive nail biter, and I wanted to stop but needed a creative way to do it. So I decided to make them an art project. It helps me not bite them because I donโ€™t want to ruin all the hard work Iโ€™ve done. I have to keep up with them and sharpen them about once a week. It also makes it easier to open packages, which is great.

Remote, cucumber, bag of chips, house keys. Not sure they get anything out of it, but they just seem happy to be kept in the loop.

It bums me out whenever someone's trying to say something but cuts themselves off or says "nevermind" because they assume that they're wasting time. Think it through, or let it come back to you. 3 years ago, I started saying, "Talk through the thought" with my friend, and I think it's made me more patient, and I've ended up hearing/saying some cool shit (or at least some funny shit) that I would've probably missed out on otherwise.
