“Personally, I like when things fall apart.” If you’re familiar with Sonic Youth and like the music at all, you’ll want to read this. In her memoir, Kim Gordon talks about growing up in LA in the 60s and 70s in a family of progressive academics, and later living in New York City in the era of Andy Warhol and the Velvet Underground. She talks about the advent of the no wave movement and noise rock. She tells stories of her and former husband Thurston Moore‘s adventures forming and evolving as Sonic Youth for 40 years. My favorite thing in the book was when she shared her disappointment in Rick Rubin after he told her in an interview his favorite band was Bon Jovi.
Dicovered reading Kim Gordon's memoir "Girl in a band" that she had a clothing line called x-girl. Pretty cool. Love it when people do lots of different things (music, fashion, visual arts, writting, acting)
It’s a nice little dopamine hit and helps you connect to old familiar feelings of comfort. I started doing this after a bout of pandemic depression and it still helps me get out of a funk every once in a while.
