Delicious way to spend a super rainy Saturday. First train ride I haven’t done work on in a while and now I just wanna ride up and down the Northeast Corridor every weekend.
What are you reading? Short stories feel like such an indulgence, which is weird because they take less time. I think it’s that you’re committing to finishing one in a single session.
theaccidentalsexcoach I think that’s true. Also that you get this whole immersive world experience in a sitting vs. needing to get into it. It’s just this year’s O Henry Prize collection (edited by Lauren Groff, who truly knows how to write one herself). This volume is nice since every story is from a different collection instead of just being stuff I’ve already seen in the New Yorker (although I say that and the first two were ones I have read previously elsewhere).
tortitude When I had more time, I used to buy each year‘s Best American short stories and poetry collections. I’m not sure when I started thinking of those as indulgences - prolly when I had kids lol.
I don’t believe I’ve ever been, but wow you can see such nice bodies of waters/sailboats/nice houses out the window. Almost makes up for the fact that the Northeast Corridor no longer makes any geographical sense and the train lines are on the verge of falling apart.
Was walking home from work and thought Hmmmm. I want to get on the train. so I got on the next one and took it to a beach town an hour away and I’ve had the most beautiful day. I <3 the train shout out SD Coaster
Sometimes I like to read or do homework or just scroll on my phone while I commute but today I just feel like looking out the train. It's a really nice today today, very sunny, and I love watching how the sunlight hits the buildings and trees as I pass through.
