Iโm about halfway through it, but so far itโs been really informative and interesting. Itโs all about the birth and evolution of the indie music scene in the US, with an emphasis on punk, post punk, noise, emo, and what we would now broadly call โindie rock.โ Each chapter is dedicated to a different band, highlighting influential acts like Black Flag, The Minutemen, Minor Threat, Fugazi, and my current hyperfixation: Sonic Youth. Itโs a nice little dopamine hit and helps you connect to old familiar feelings of comfort. I started doing this after a bout of pandemic depression and it still helps me get out of a funk every once in a while.
