Iโ€™m about halfway through it, but so far itโ€™s been really informative and interesting. Itโ€™s all about the birth and evolution of the indie music scene in the US, with an emphasis on punk, post punk, noise, emo, and what we would now broadly call โ€œindie rock.โ€ Each chapter is dedicated to a different band, highlighting influential acts like Black Flag, The Minutemen, Minor Threat, Fugazi, and my current hyperfixation: Sonic Youth. Check it out and buckle in for a pretty long and wild ride through the history of indie rock.

If you like punk music at all this is a must watch!! Here's the blurb: Before Bad Brains, the Sex Pistols or even the Ramones, there was a band called Death. Punk before punk existed, three teenage brothers in the early '70s formed a band in their spare bedroom, began playing a few local gigs and even pressed a single in the hoped of getting signed. But this was the era of Motown and emerging disco. Itโ€™s a nice little dopamine hit and helps you connect to old familiar feelings of comfort. I started doing this after a bout of pandemic depression and it still helps me get out of a funk every once in a while.
