Auto-fiction in the au courant/Rachel Cusk bent about a female writer in her 50s. Beautifully written and just brimming with wit. I don’t have her gifts so I can’t begin to do it justice, but just read it.
Didn’t actually realize this was the third in a trilogy (a repeat mistake for this guy). Felt even more atmospheric not having the context of the first two.
august blue by deborah levy is really good too, but its a novel and i believe real estate is part of her “living autobiography” trilogy. i love anything that woman writes!!!
tortitude omg the writing shed!!! it’s not about a middle aged woman but hot milk is my favorite novel of all time also by her. if you ever read it i would love to hear your thoughts!
read it over a few days in the summer- and its set during those hot months! ikinda like middle-aged women musings but i found the story kinda cinematic and quite compelling bc its about this rude annoying artist satying in the narrators marsh land. and the narrator is fun ny.
It's about a young woman coming into adulthood with her whole childhood behind her and the cruel modern world ahead of her. Family drama, roommate drama, a mysterious lover, middle class angst, strange and surreal scenes(like her house literally slowly sinking into the earth), and amazing prose.
Honorable mention to Woman, Eating by Claire Kohda, which is about a vampire who is trying to break into the art world.
fun sweet emotional poetry book about an angel who comes down to earth and has a relationship with a man from the suburbs. the whole book is basically back and forth conversation, it's a super quick read, and it's so so good
