Like 60% through. Just when it was getting a bit meandering, Mccarthy brought back my favorite character and used them for one off scenes that played like a Revenant-esque survival story. This is one of the best American novels I have ever read. I know that’s not a new take.

First time trying Cormac McCarthy. I was inspired by a podcast host who read Blood Meridian.

blood, guts, gore, and the wild wild west by cormac. as a palette cleanser, the grandfather or alternative manga’s autobiographical masterpiece. Incredible read if you are curious about the history of manga, postwar japan, or the creative process of manga-making in general.

i read this novel last year. it had a big impact on me and quickly became one of my favorites. it’s about a man who decides to leave his privileged life/family in favor of living an ascetic life as a fisherman on a river in Tennessee. its description of alcoholism and being black-out drunk has stuck with me, and there’s a scene describing a bar fight thatā€˜s so theatrical. generally though i appreciate how this protagonistā€˜s isolated lifestyle is told through the details of his life - i just thought the book was so beautifully written, funny, sad… i read his novel Outer Dark after this one and it was OK but Suttree rules.
