Be the Cowboy had just been released and I was listening to it on repeat. I lived alone in Austin, in a shed-like rental eclipsed by a freshly constructed hypermodern compound. I was at a diner with a friend and we were having a passionate discussion about our thoughts on the album and which songs were our favorite. The owner of the diner, a nice man in his early 60s, came up to us and asked us what we were talking about. We told him about Mitski and had a very pleasant conversation about music. He then went to his sound system and put Be the Cowboy on in its entirety. We were simultaneously touched and a little embarrassed. My friend Steph met her at a house party in Bushwick in 2015-ish and said she was so sweet and a little shy—crazy but not surprising that she’s a superstar now. ⭐️

My coworker-turned-best friend and I have been exited for this night for many months, I bought the tickets for her birthday in February along with a Bare-bells protein bar. Our friendship is simple and low-maintenance, which is why I think it works so well. We decided to do as Trish would and grab some spinach and artichoke dip as a pre-soireé bite at the classic Bill’s, located in The Rock. The waitress had a “Bonita” neck tattoo and brought both of us the wrong beer. We drank them happily. While headed back to get in line with the rest of the chronically-online, pink cowboy hat queers, we passed The American Girl doll flagship store. I find the families and energy of the air around this specific brick & mortar is so beautiful, I see young girls with maroon bags that are as big as them with an even bigger smile on their face and all I can think about is when I got my Julie doll for Christmas in 5th grade. The vibe in line was crazy. A-lot of SHEIN skirts and amazon accessories, paired with merch t-shirts from previous years of the expansive Trisha lore. We opted out of getting a drink at the theatre because; as I’m sure anyone reading this knows, two High-Noons runs you about $30 in this bustling city of lights. The show was amazing. She constantly reminds me that she is one of the rare success stories to come out of an lol-cow adjacent creator-to-fan relationship. Lowkey has a great voice too. The highlight of the show was her rendition/mashup of “New York, New York” by Frank Sinatra, and “Empire State of Mind” by Kanye West. Towards the end of the show she had quite the touching story of her struggle with BPD and Depression. Seeing her in her customized, bedazzled “I ❤️ NY” crop top, 6 months pregnant pulled something from within me - I couldn't help but shed a tear. Overall an Incredible experience. I love you Trisha Paytas.

i was about to turn 15 in 2016 and i was really awkward but her music helped me through a lot of unexplainable adolescent emotions .. i gave a letter with a drawing of her to her merch person and she told me i was a good artist and followed my instagram 😭 so yeah we are still mutuals & she helped me become proud & confident in who i am today <3

I watched this for the first time at the most perfect age to absorb it forever. One of the most formative experiences of my life. There’s no pretense - never is with Mitski - but here her spirit is on full display. The most compelling performance is Class of 2013, wherein she screams into her guitar during the third verse, “Mom will you wash my back this once, and then we can forget.” I’ve replayed that part probably 30 times.

my predictions and manifestations, based entirely on vibes. out: — American work ethic — learning French — situationships — low fat versions of foods — slur discourse in: — siesta — herbed yogurt — working hardest in the morning and leaving the evening for leisure — writing postcards to your long-distance friends, exclusively in cursive (if you weren’t taught to write in cursive, the time to learn will be now) — big boobs (cultural Catholicism will prevail again baby)
