Crushed it! I’ve been working a newsletter post for this and a thought I had (paraphrased here) was that hating on everything everyone likes doesn’t define you as a tastemaker, it just makes you unbearable and highly unlikeable. Let people like what they like. 2024 is the year where we drink bad wine unironically!!!

Liking popular music

It’s ok to be “basic” sometimes. Popular album, songs, and artists are popular for a reason!!! I’m kinda over the whole social judgment of liking very popular stuff. The desperate need to have individually and uniqueness is so exhausting to see, sometimes you can just like stuff because you like it!! Let people like things!!!!

Ppl want to feel special i guess

Tbh I would say it comes down to that. SOME People feel a sense of superiority or pride with Liking obscure things I guess.
My advice is to own it, and just enjoy what you like. Compared to other people I see on this app, as well as me growing up, I’m realizing that I am very basic and mainstream in my tastes and with what I like.
Just have fun, who cares anyways?

having gaps in your media consumption and being honest about it

omg you haven’t seen that film? you haven’t heard that music? you haven’t read that book? THAT’S NORMAL!!!! i feel like there is so much social pressure to consume whatever media makes you niche and unique and cultured and i’m OVER IT. it’s normal to have not seen every cool movie or show on the planet or heard every album to ever exist. consuming media is something that should be enjoyable and happen gradually over time, not something you force to meet arbitrary cool person standards. i’m so done with feel a social obligation to consume certain things. i’ll get to it when i get to it! let me have my taste, im okay with not knowing everything!

Intermissions during films

currently reintroduced to the brilliance of being in a movie theatre and half way through the screen goes black abruptly the lights flash on and a big ol “INTERMISSION” in ariel font is walloped onto the screen
Movies are only getting longer and if i am at the cinema hall i require a built in bathroom break and popcorn re-up
