I don’t know what they’re called but I am socially awkward so I just read EVERYTHING on a wall so I don’t have to look people in the face BUT I find out about so many cool things and events because of it. This works best in smaller towns/campuses but actually if you read paper things people put up you might just find a really cool event! I went to a library book sale today because of a little flyer!
Stop walking into bookstores and asking for a particular title bc it’s a bestseller 😴 Go walk outside to the used $3 rack and comb it like you’re looking for lice on an eight year olds greasy head. I mean, look at every title. Pick up the ones that truly speak ur name and leave the others for their fated owners. Once ur arms are full of slept on bangers for cheap$, u are allowed entry to the main event. Inside, peruse carefully but whimsically, let urself be pulled this way and that by a nice font and a bright cover and a tempting staff rec sticky note. If you are determined to find a particular book bc ur bff w good taste recd it or ur in a book club then u are allowed to hunt for it, but u must HUNT. u can only ask for help if u are in a horrible rush, or truly cannot find the title after giving it your best effort. Otherwise, listen to what the shelves are telling you👂 It is in this manner I have found many of the best books I’ve ever read… those recs coming soon
my work friend and I have similar taste so I brought the book I was reading to work the other day and read during my break in the hopes she would ask about it which led her to ask “omg is that [the book]??” and I was like “omg yeah it’s [the book]!!” I guess she’d already read it but now I can lend her another book by the same writer and we can talk about BOTH books. being performative is awesome!!
Digital archives, national archives, old movie tickets and photos, notes app archives, old instagram posts or even a big old warehouse. The idea that anything can be worthy of being remembered is beautiful.
