Most radio stations do internet streams now! It's great, and I rarely utilize this magic!! WBGO.org is incredible jazz station out of NYC Wavefarm.org is an incredible upstate NY kookyville experimental radio station The classical station (https://theclassicalstation.org/about-us/) is a very run of the mill but listener supported classical radio station! No services needed! Stream away!!!

Free form radio station based out of NJ, you can listen online and on the app, they have archives of shows dating way back and even have a feature on the app where you can ask it to pick a random archived show for you. My fav shows rn are Pseu's Thing With A Hook, Ken's Show, Wake with Clay Pigeon, Morricone Island [Soundtrack Music show, so awesome], Surface Noise with Joe McGasko, and This Is The Modern World with Trouble and also Daniel Blumin..... but honestly you just gotta put it on all day and see where it takes you!! I find almost all of my music there these days and have been surprised by how my taste has expanded. The DJs have really deep knowledge of what they're talking about and it just feels very organic. Also Sophisticated Boom Boom with Sheila B and Gaylord Fields' show are incredible they're just not currently on the air but you can access the archives :)

WCNI New London, Connecticut College - community & student DJs (I had a show there while I was in college!). Usually something weird/good happening. They used to always have a polka show on Sundays I think. WRPI Troy - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the capital region, NY. Whenever I drive through I pick up this station and it never disappoints. They have some weeeiiirdd shit. WFMU out of NJ. Fantastic programming, great music, eccentric hosts.

I’ve just been listening to a lot of college radio recently, trying to distance myself from Spotify - there’s some great stations with really good programming. Some faves in no particular order: 91.7 WICB (Ithaca College - linked above) 88.9 WERS (Emerson College) 91.1 WMUA (UMass Amherst) 88.1 WKNC (North Carolina State University) 90.3 KEXP (operated by an affiliate of the University of Washington)

I know slavoj zizek is a fucking loser now, but his movie A Pervert's Guide to Ideology was the first piece of media that began to rub away the sheen/shellac of pretense that the world operates smoothly. It was my first time really engaging with a Marxian analysis and sitting with it. I was in high school, and it set me up to care about critical theory. From this movie, I'd read Mark Fisher's really quick book "Capitalist Realism: is there no alternative?" Fisher grounds a lot of his theory in culture/media in a very similar way to Zizek. After that, I'd follow recommendations made by others in the thread!

1. Scroll the "everyone" feed (almost completely ignore that home/friends page) 2. Like gratuitously 3. Follow people who post things you like 4. I try to be brave and comment when feeling moved I don't search or look for anything in particular, personally, unless I'm about to post something and curious if others have done so already. Just let the river float by and enjoy the ride
