when I was trapped in suburbia, id go to nearby parks and playgrounds/school yards (when school isn’t in session) with friends and just goof around. do photoshoots, lay in the grass and talk, sometimes bring snacks and have a picnic. your local library might be a good solo option too, it’s free!
Find a place where you can hang out at for free/little cost, try out: - public libraries
- coffee shops with later hours
- a body of water (there’s a park in my neighborhood with free entry to their pool, I hung out there for a few hours and read outside) or just walk around, flaneur-style…,
• museums
• picnic with a book or art project
• bird watching hikes
• book talks + educational panels (yay learning!)
• reading or writing at a cafe outside
• the movies ofc
you'll be surprised how many people make use of the outside amenities – basketball courts, soccer fields, water parks, dog parks, jungle gyms, playgrounds. nest yourself in the climbing structure – read a book – watch the people like ants. yesterday i met a dog named Meatball who wanted to be chased around; today he recognized me & ran towards me with a ball in his mouth.

this is my go to rainy day/feeling bleh meal. it’s creamy, cheesy, a little meaty and you still get some greens. plus it’s easy to throw together so it requires minimal brain power.
preheat oven to 400 F (sry if you’re not american)
pick your favorite vegetable. if you choose something big like zucchini, butternut squash, sweet potato, etc., cut it into 1 inch cubes. place your veggies on a lined baking sheet, then hit ’em with the old one two.
ONE: drizzle with olive oil
TWO: sprinkle with salt and pepper
use a rubber spatula or your hands to coat everything evenly. cook time depends on your veggie, but probably somewhere in the 20 min zone. pull them out when they start getting crispy. voila! simple, healthy, tasty veggies. asparagus, green beans, brussel sprouts, carrots, broccolini…like truly the options are endless.
