see if theres a tenants rights advocacy organization in your city. they can be a great resource as they know local laws and how to navigate things like this. if your place is truly rent controlled they can probably help you put together documentation to show your landlord.

I didn’t know what this was until a few weeks ago, and now I’m an at large member in the umbrella organization for my state that supports all the tenants unions forming here. The idea is to organize your neighbors under the common cause of advocating for yourselves and asserting that you have legal rights and protections AS TENANTS. Tenants unions also lobby for local and state legislation that protects everyone. Every state is in a different stage of development of the movement, but with a housing and rent crisis literally everywhere in the country there could be a local group you can join right now that will help you organize your building/your neighbors. If you have a different living situation than being a tenant, you can support the union with your solidarity and time and by being a body at the rallies when they call you! Power is something we have to actively demand and we have to do it together, especially for the foreseeable future if we don’t want to lose more ground than we gain.

1. check streeteasy every day bc new listings go up very frequently 2. go on tours as soon as possible / as frequently as possible 3. send in an application as soon as possible (like ideally on / immediately after the tours) 4. *research the apartment.* make sure it’s rent stabilized, check ownership + rent history, sometimes there are landlord / property manager databases that are worth looking into, or you will likely have to move again very soon there’s a housing crisis in the city rn so if you don’t move quickly enough someone else is going to get the apartment, being the first application in the pile 90% of the time is the only way to get a lease (provided everything else is in order)

preheat oven to 400 F (sry if you’re not american) pick your favorite vegetable. if you choose something big like zucchini, butternut squash, sweet potato, etc., cut it into 1 inch cubes. place your veggies on a lined baking sheet, then hit ’em with the old one two. ONE: drizzle with olive oil TWO: sprinkle with salt and pepper use a rubber spatula or your hands to coat everything evenly. cook time depends on your veggie, but probably somewhere in the 20 min zone. pull them out when they start getting crispy. voila! simple, healthy, tasty veggies. asparagus, green beans, brussel sprouts, carrots, broccolini…like truly the options are endless.

this is my go to rainy day/feeling bleh meal. it’s creamy, cheesy, a little meaty and you still get some greens. plus it’s easy to throw together so it requires minimal brain power.
