i acc didnt rlly like this film as the constant exposure to strokin pen1ses and c*mshots made me quite pornsick but it was , in true gay arthouse cinema, very playful in its engagement with porn & cinema (porn as cinema? porn and cinema?) but ye , hardcore French gay corn on 16mm ⭐️⭐️
not sure if it can well and truly be called a french new wave film for a lot of reasons (not quite french, not released in precisely the right time period, etc.) but i think a good entry point to the kind of surrealist, vibes-oriented as opposed to narrative-oriented filmmaking that "foreign films" (especially European) tend to evoke / get clowned for in American media it's funny, it's bizarre, it has something to say but you might need a couple watches to get it (at least i did)
Sexy, wistful, complicated in the way only a real-to-life portrayal of romance can be. I love how French films don't care so much for the moral arcs often portrayed in Holywood
Bring back transgressive arthouse cinema! I’m so over everything out there this movie hits all the non-pc spots I crave in this era. Hilariously absurd yet existential. Also, see: The Holy Mountain, Sweet Movie, The Scary of Sixty-First, Tout Va Bien, Le Septieme Continent.
