Super obsessed with her rn. Her book “Walking through clear water in a pool painted black” may have been all over Pinterest last year but it’s very touching

Cookie Mueller is the ultimate cool girl, mover, shaker, writer, actor, comedian, activist, etc. If you know Cookie Mueller this comes as fact. If you don't know Cookie Mueller, do yourself a favor and read Walking Through Clear Water in a Pool Painted Black. Easily one of the best books I've ever read- especially if you are nyc-based! It is like your older sibling's cool best friend telling you all of their crazy stories in a non-pretentious way. I love you Cookie Mueller!!!

lovely feminist baker who has the sweetest dog and just became a mom :) i‘m increasingly against following people i don’t know on instagram but i love her posts, she speaks really earnestly and compassionately about abortion, and her recipes are delightful even just to look at pictures of. i think she’s been baking less since she had a kid but she still shares recipes frequently (cakes, cookies, quick breads and more!) additional sub-recs here: her substack, a little something sweet (she writes about so many things) her cookbook, baking by feel (recipes divided by feelings!!! if baking is a coping mechanism for you then i especially rec this)

I recently saw the Martha documentary on Netflix and it felt like a piece being placed in the puzzle of my life. When I was a child, my parents moved from New York City to Connecticut, which was a huge culture shock. I was used to always having something to do, and the city had been a remedy for boredom and restlessness. In contrast, Connecticut felt quiet and unfamiliar. I found myself in the pages of my mom’s Martha Stewart Living collection. At the time, I didn’t really see Martha as a real person—she was like a fairy godmother. Whenever I felt anxious, I would immerse myself in her perfect world. I made ladybugs out of chocolate and strawberries, crafted a homemade swamp monster costume from dried moss and fishing nets, built birdhouses with my neighbors wine corks, grew an herb garden in our kitchen. In those moments, I felt whole. I found a quiet rhythm, a sense of calm and creativity, where every detail of the home and garden offered a gentle escape.

I rec starting small. I love the Penguin Modern series, they’re tiny short books that fit in your pocket for you to take anywhere! Super quick read and VERY interesting publications (Susan Sontag, Kathy Acker, Andy Warhol, Carson McCullers, Franz Kafka etc..) + they’re super cheap 💸
