now im a recent art school grad trying to figure out how to make art pay the bills.

It’s weird because you’re told that you’re smart, in gifted and talented classes, praised but only when you do well in your studies. Your desire to feel praise and love from your parents leads you down to study the sciences even though you really wanted to study geography at university.
covid hits the year you graduate and it’s hard to find a job! a good 2/3 years pass of fruitless attempts to find a job in the scientific field. so you go and study for your Masters in Oncoimmunology hoping it’ll be enough academic experience to land you an entry job but it’s not and no one cares that you studied hard and no one care that you love your area of research. it’s a tough market atp i just wanna be a home maker so I can play video games all day and hire a cleaner.
Ive been feeling sososo dejected recently from applying to jobs, have a first class masters but no experience so no one wants to hire you? like damn bitch come teach me??? ME???

I’m a Computer Science major with a minor in data science, I’ve always liked computer, I started coding when I was very young, in HS I explored adjacent fields like engineering and Cyber Security but stuck with Computer Science cuz I figured if I get a good enough understanding of the foundations I could basically do anything later
I enjoy what I do but I can’t say it’s the only thing I’d enjoy doing, I’m a scientist @ heart so I think I would’ve been ok in any STEM field but to me the combo of utility offered by Comp Sci, and the allure of figuring out what makes the magic box work was too strong to pass up
I don’t really have any good advice, figuring out what to do is hard, I know more pepl who regret staying in their major than I do pepl who regret switching so I’d say try what you think will fit best and if it doesn’t work out don’t be afraid to try something else

its so fun. theres so many types. abundant cheap options to get into. i recommend looking at jet pens website for both articles and pens you can buy. its a topic with tons of history, but is still modern and active. i have a kaweco aluminum sport which is my favorite but i also love the lamy safaris. could go on for hours about this lovely invention

it’s such a awkward marker of a new year. a weird mix of wanting people to celebrate you, but feeling tired of the obligation to thank everyone that only reaches out once a year.
i always find birthdays really hard, and fairly disappointing.
my recommendation is to give yourself grace, and do what makes you happy. i know it’s such a generic rec but this past year on the actual day i just took it easy, treated myself to some takeout, and watched a show in bed. a few days after i got together with friends and we went to a restaurant i love but they’d never really wanted to go to. and then we ate homemade cake and watched a movie.
