Miniature donkeys

My partner's aunt has a farm and we got to feed the animals yesterday. The mini donkeys followed me around and I love them. Her aunt was like "looks like you got two new besties." Best day ever.

country stores

I went to the little country store where I get my vending machine Dr. Pepper today. I usually just sit in my car a minute and look at the mountains and watch the donkeys from across the field. This time finally stopped to read the sign. It had a lovely little poem: “We are all tame And Glad you came But, We’re animals, you see Your fingers look Like food to me.” It had directions on how to feed them safely (“Hands Flat, Fingers together. Treat in Palm of Hand. Keep Hand Flat.”), photos of the donkeys and their names (I saw Buddy and Holly today), and fascinating facts about donkeys (“Donkeys are highly intelligent and have excellent reasoning abilities”). Seeing this invitation, I finally decided to go inside the store to purchase some donkey treats. It was a charming bag of six kidney-bean shaped biscuits for 95 cents next to fresh country ham rolls (delicious). As I was approaching the fence, Buddy let out a series of deafening brays, prancing over quickly for his little treats. Hand flat, fingers together, I fed Buddy his donkey cookies. When I was going back to the car, Holly came up so I got another dollar and headed back for more biscuits. As I was feeding Holly, one of the ladies from the store told me that Holly was expecting. That changed everything, she was eating for two! I got my last dollar bill and went back in to get the last treat bag. I look forward to adding more donkey treat stops to my Dr. Pepper stops on my way home. Come Spring, I’ll get to meet Holly’s babies. One day, I’ll feed them a treat from the center of my hand, palm flat, fingers together.
